Laurent Marcel Guy Foirest (born September 18,  1973 in Marseille ) is a French basketball coach and former player.

career

Foirest played as a teenager at USPEG Marseille, he took his first steps in the professional field in 1989 with the first division team Olympique d'Antibes . There the athletic left-hander developed into a regular player and was given a lot of responsibility by coach Jacques Monclar . In 1990 and 1995 he won the French championship with Antibes. In 1996, the 1.97 meter tall winger moved to Pau-Orthez within the French league . Here, too, he was national champion twice (1998, 1999). Foirest's achievements aroused desires abroad, among other things his high hit rates in the three-point throw made people sit up and take notice.

Between 1999 and 2003 he was under contract with the Spanish first division club TAU Céramica . His point yield in the ACB league was slightly lower than in his home country, but Foirest was a regular at TAU. In 2001 he reached the final of the Euroleague alongside players like Luis Scola and Fabricio Oberto , where they lost to Kinder Virtus Bologna . In 2002, the Frenchman and his team won both the Spanish championship title and the Spanish Cup. In the league, Foirest achieved the best values ​​of its time in Spain in attack this season (10.8 points / game).

After his return to Pau-Orthez in 2003, Foirest had an average of 14.7 points per match in the French league in the 2003/04 season, which meant his career high in the Ligue Nationale de Basket . He stayed in Pau-Orthez until 2006, and in 2004 Foirest again became French champions with the team. The last stop of his playing career was ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne (2006 to 2011). Here, too, Foirest won titles, namely the French Cup competition in 2008 and the championship in 2009. In 2010 he suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury and announced his resignation a year later.

National team

In 1992 he was with France Junior European Champion, Foirest was on the way to the title of best scorer of the team (15.3 points / game), in the final against Italy he scored 21 points.

Between 1995 and 2006 he played 150 international A games, and at the 2000 Summer Olympics , Foirest won the silver medal with France. He came in the course of the Olympic tournament on 6.1 points per encounter, in the final against the United States (75:85) Foirest was 16 minutes on the field and scored three points. Foirest took part in the men's world championship (2006) and five European championships (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005). Trainer

In 2011 he became sports director at ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne and remained in office until June 2013.

In 2014 he joined the coaching staff of the French men's national team and became the assistant to head coach Pascal Donnadieu .

In 2015 he became the head coach of UJAP Quimper. He led the team to promotion to France's second highest league, the ProB, in 2016. In 2017, in addition to his role in Quimper, he was again assistant coach of the French national team, this time under Vincent Collet .
