Mairie Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains

Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains is a French commune in the department of Landes of the region Aquitaine .

The small tourist town with 1618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in southwest France is located directly on the Atlantic coast. During the season from late May to September, it attracts up to 40,000 vacationers.

history

Until 1578 Vieux-Boucau was called Port d ' Albret and was an important port on the Adour . After the river was diverted, the port was abandoned and the place was given the name, which means Old Mouth .

Attractions

Saint-Clément church

The city center consists of the old town and a newer part. A canal runs through the village and feeds a centrally located, 60 hectare saltwater swimming lake. The artificial lake was built in the 1970s. Its water is regularly renewed with the help of a lock on the canal, the gates of which open to the rhythm of the tides.

During the season, weekly show fights are shown in the old bullring , in which the animals are not injured.

There are many campsites available to holidaymakers in and around the town.

The nearest train station and the nearest hospital are in the city of Dax .
