Saint-Lon-les-Mines ( Occitan : Sent Lon ) is a French municipality with 1208 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ) in southwestern France. It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Orthe et Arrigans (until 2015: canton of Peyrehorade ).

Saint-Lon-les-Mines is located around 31 kilometers east-northeast of Bayonne . Neighboring communities are Siest in the north, Heugas in the north-east, Cagnotte in the east and south-east, Bélus and Orthevielle in the south, Port-de-Lanne in the south-west and Orist in the west and north-west.
history
Until August 1918, the municipality was called Saint-Léon d'Orthe . The municipality was renamed because lignite had been mined here with interruptions since 1896 . The mining was particularly intense from 1941 to 1947. The mine was finally shut down in 1949 when better quality coal was available again.
