history

Until August 1918, the municipality was called Saint-Léon d'Orthe . The municipality was renamed because lignite had been mined here with interruptions since 1896 . The mining was particularly intense from 1941 to 1947. The mine was finally shut down in 1949 when better quality coal was available again.
