Attractions

Parish Church of Saint Vincent

In the middle of the 12th century, the church was mentioned in the livery rouge of the cathedral of Dax in the form of Sanctus Vincentius de Marpaps , the parish belonging to Nassiet. The semicircular apse and the south wall of the nave could already have been built by this time. The floor plan and two small rectangular window openings in the apse, which were recently cleared and framed with garluche, the ferrous sandstone of the Landes, indicate this. However, the plastering and the lack of decorations make precise dating difficult. A side aisle was probably added on the north side in the 16th century, as evidenced by the only preserved old rectangular window. It opens to the main nave via three large ogival arcades . At the same time a sacrament house was built into the wall of the apse. Inscriptions are engraved on the arch of the entrance, some of which are still legible today. They allow the construction of the vestibule to be dated to the middle of the 17th century. The town hall is located on the first floor of this part of the building. In 1844 an octagonal bell tower was built on the porch. His helmet is covered with slate . The interior of the church was renovated in the 1980s. A sacristy flanks the choir on its north side.

None of the furnishings from the Ancien Régime are still in the church. The oldest object is the marble altar , which was made in the middle of the 19th century. The stained glass windows are the work of the glass painter George Gross from Nancy in 1959.

An oak tree several hundred years old provides its shade in the immediate vicinity of the parish church. The site offers a wide view of neighboring Béarn and a large part of the Pyrenees mountain range .
