Tartas is a French commune with 3260 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Pays Morcenais Tarusate . The ancient name Taro is derived from the Aquitaine people of the Tarusati .

geography

Tartas lies on the border between the Grandes Landes and the Chalosse, two completely opposite landscapes. The Midouze , a tributary to the Adour , represented a natural barrier to this, the pine forests on one side and the hill country on the other. Tartas is also divided into two cantons by the Midouze.
