Louer is a French municipality with 301 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Coteau de Chalosse (until 2015: canton of Montfort-en-Chalosse ).

The name is Loèr in the Gascognischen language .

The inhabitants are called Louérois and Louéroises .

Louer is located about 15 km northeast of Dax in the Chalosse region of the historic province of Gascony .

history

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a level of almost 200 by the second half of the 19th century. After the end of the 19th century, the size of the community decreased to a level of around 140 inhabitants by the 1930s, with brief recovery periods. A period of strong growth began in the 1980s and is still going on today.

The church, built in the 15th century, has a nave with a main aisle and a north aisle. The semicircular apse houses the flat choir , which is flanked in the north by the sacristy . Its roof is crowned with a lantern . In the west, the massive bell tower over the vestibule dominates the overall picture. Its pyramid-shaped helmet is covered with slate , and an outbuilding is attached to its south side. The entrance under the bell tower is ogival . Above is a frame that is provided with misshapen and scattered bas-reliefs , from which u. a. a pietà , a medieval horseman and other enigmatic symbols can be recognized.
