Pouillon ( Occitan : Polhon ) is a French municipality with 3072 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Orthe et Arrigans . The inhabitants are called Pouillonnais .

geography

Pouillon is located on the northern edge of the French Basque Country and on the Bassecq River . Pouillon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saugnac-et-Cambran in the north, Mimbaste in the north and northeast, Estibeaux in the east, Misson in the southeast, Labatut in the south, Cauneille in the southwest, Cagnotte and Gaas in the west and Bénesse-lès-Dax in the northwest.

history

Originally, Pouillon was probably a Gallo-Roman settlement on the Roman road from Bordeaux to Pamplona.
