Seignosse ( Occitan : Senhossa ) is a French municipality with 3872 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Seignosse belongs to the arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Marensin-Sud . The inhabitants are called Seignossais .
geography
Seignosse is a municipality on the silver coast facing the Atlantic. The district with the beach is called Seignosse Océan (formerly: Le Penon) . The actual place Seignosse lies a little further inland and is also called Seignosse Bourg to distinguish it . On the northeastern edge of the municipality is the White Lake ( Étang blanc ). The Black Lake ( Étang noir ) is located in the middle of a nature reserve immediately north of the village. Seignosse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Soustons in the north, Tosse in the east, Saubion in the south-east, Angresse in the south and Soorts-Hossegor in the south and south-west.

Tourism and leisure
surfing
Seignosse is very well known as a surf spot. With Biarritz and Hossegor, Seignosse is part of the cradle of surfing in France (seat of the French surfing club from 1977 to 1984). Every year Seignosse and Hossegor organize a stage of the surf world championship for professional surfers, as well as other numerous competitions throughout the year.
golf
The community has an 18-hole golf course, which extends over an area of 70 hectares. The golf course was designed in 1989 by the French architect Pierre Thévenin and the American architect Robert van Hagge. The 18-hole golf course (par 72 at 6,124 m) with water hazards was voted the best golf course in France by English experts. It is located in a gently hilly area that is planted with pine and cork oaks.
Aquapark
Seignosse has an aqua park: Atlantic Park. There is 2,800 m² of heated pool area with various types of multi-lane slides and a 9 m high super camikaze slide. There are also whirlpools, several 25 m pools and a counter-current system, as well as paddling pools with mini slides for the children.
"Etang Noir" nature reserve
A boardwalk leads into the typical, dense flora of the humid "landes", in which many small protected animals live. At the end of the jetty is the Étang Noir . Guided tours are offered in summer. A documentation booth provides comprehensive educational information about the fauna and flora of this area.
Etang Blanc
The "Etang Blanc" is located in a natural area with pine and cork oaks and offers fishing and rowing opportunities.
Seignosse on foot or by bike
The community offers 40 km of signposted forest trails. Seignosse has 20 km of cycle paths, including the so-called "La Vélodyssée", a route that runs along the French coast from Brittany to the Basque Country. A well-developed network of trails is available. A total of 20 km of cycle paths and 40 km of hiking trails in the pine forest are signposted.

Sights and local identity
- The Saint-André church in Seignosse Bourg was built on the foundations of the 13th century church and is dedicated to the patron saint of Seignosse. Part of the church was destroyed during the French Revolution . The church is mainly made of stone, with the Gothic bell tower made of "Angoulême stone". The bell used to be used as a fire bell.
- The Saint-Thérèse church in Penon was built in 1973.

- The "Les Bourdaines" event hall with 2500 seats.
Seignosse Océan
The designated seaside resort on the Atlantic is 5 km west of Seignosse Bourg. It was founded in the 1970s as part of a redesign of the Aquitaine coast . The place offers 4 guarded sandy beaches over 6 km with shops, campsites and holiday villages.
The seaside resort was renamed Seignosse Océan in 2009.
