history
The area of today's municipality was settled in prehistory and subsequently during the Gallo-Roman period . At the end of the 13th century the village of Donzacq was founded. Premonstratensians on their way back from Santiago de Compostela settled at a spring and built an abbey around which the community developed in the following years.

Attractions
Parish Church of Saint-Pierre
The oldest parts of today's parish church, consecrated to the Apostle Peter , are the apse and the north wall of the nave made of uniform masonry , which were probably built at the end of the Gothic period in the 15th or early 16th century. The south aisle of three bays in length and the sacristy built on the three-walled apse to the north were added at a later date. The windows of this sacristy in the form of segmental arches date from the 18th century. Today's second sacristy, built to the south of the apse, is below the building level and can be reached via a staircase. Some changes were made to the building in the middle of the 19th century. Six new arched windows have been created in the nave. In return, several old windows have been bricked up. The bell tower and a vestibule in front were built by the entrepreneur Bernède between 1844 and 1851 according to plans by the architect Jules Sibien. The square bell tower is equipped with an octagonal helmet covered with slate . Pyramid- shaped roof turrets adorn every outer corner of the tower. A classical entrance portal with pilasters in a Doric order , a round arch and a triangular gable adorns the entrance to the vestibule.
The church has retained many of its old furnishings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Of particular note are two statues of Saints Peter and Paul , which have been classified as Monuments historiques since December 29, 1983 . They are now in the niches of the choir , but could probably have decorated an 18th century altarpiece that has now disappeared. The statue of St. Peter is inspired by a work by the sculptor Pierre Puget . Both statues are made of multi-colored, painted wood and measure approximately 1.30 m in height. One glass window bears the signature of Mauméjean from Pau , eight other windows are works by Gustave Pierre Dagrant from Bordeaux , which were created between 1888 and 1891.
The following representations are shown in the glass windows:
- Peter as a bust ,
- the evangelist John with his evangelist symbol , the eagle, a writing and a feather,
- the motif of the immaculate conception ,
- the scene of the calling of the apostles Peter and Andrew ,
- Mary with baby Jesus and a pilgrim ,
- Francis of Assisi with a crucifix ,
- Saint Cecilia of Rome with a portable organ,
- the scene of the baptism of Jesus and
- Saint Vincent de Paul helping an abandoned baby.
At the same time, in the late 19th century, the choir and the side chapel were embellished with wall paintings and today's main altar was made of white marble in the neo-Romanesque style. The described and many other items of equipment of the church are registered as national cultural assets.
Lamaignère Castle
It is outside the center of the parish. The imposing building with a tower dates from the 19th century and probably belonged to the barons Lalanne de Castelnau or their descendants, who owned the lordship of Donzacq for a long time . Today the castle is privately owned and not open to the public.
