Parish Church of Saint-André

The church dedicated to the Apostle Andrew was built at the beginning of the 12th century. It has a semicircular apse made of small rubble stones and its narrow windows have lintels made of monoliths . The nave is made of regular central masonry and is flanked by a side aisle on the north side. In order to expand it, the ground floor of the adjacent square bell tower in the western part of the church was opened to the nave in the 18th century .

The special features of the church can be found in its furnishings , including a tabernacle and an altarpiece from the 18th century as well as a lamp with the eternal light and a lecture cross from the 19th century, which have been classified as Monuments historiques since September 1, 1986 .

The reredos are structured by two fluted pilasters and two fluted columns decorated with plant ornaments . They frame the central painting that shows the crucifixion scene. The patron saint of the church, St. Andrew, can be seen on the right of Jesus Christ , while Mary and John the Baptist are placed on his left by the artist. The apostle Andrew, easily recognized by his traditional attribute , the St. Andrew's cross , also appears as a large statue in the reredos to the left of the central painting. The tabernacle rests on an arched altar. Jesus is depicted as Ecce homo in a relief on his door . A crucifix rises above it and is accompanied by two statuettes . On the left of the door, St. Andrew is shown again with his cross, on the right and as a large statue, St. Lupus von Sens , recognizable by his crook and his traditional attribute, the wolf. He is the second patron saint of the Church, and his devotion was particularly lively in Bergouey. Until around a hundred years ago, every September 1st, a procession led to a fountain dedicated to him not far from the church.
