Sort-en-Chalosse ( Occitan : SORT ) is a commune with 945 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Landes department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dax and the canton of Coteau de Chalosse (until 2015: canton of Montfort-en-Chalosse ). The residents call themselves Sortois .

Sort-en-Chalosse is located in the Marensin countryside on the edge of the vast Landes de Gascogne , the largest forest area in Western Europe, about nine kilometers east-southeast of Dax . The Luy flows through the municipality . Sort-en-Chalosse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hinx in the north, Poyartin in the east, Garrey in the south and south-east, Clermont in the south, Mimbaste in the south-west, Saugnac-et-Cambran in the west and Candresse in the north-west.
