The Brazilian national basketball team for women is the selection of Brazilian female basketball players who represent the Confederaçao Brasileira de Basketball on an international level, for example in friendly matches against the selection teams of other national associations, but also in international competitions. The national association joined the world association Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) in 1935 . In November 2013, the team was listed as the best South American team in seventh place in the world rankings for women .
Brazil became world champions in 1994 and won the bronze medal at the 1971 World Cup . At the Olympic Games , the national team achieved the silver medal in 1996 and the bronze medal in 2000 ; the team also won the title five times in eleven participations in the American Championships , came second four times and third twice. The best- known active player is Érika de Souza , while Iziane Castro Marques was last excluded from the 2012 Olympic squad for disciplinary reasons. The most important former players include the world champions Hortência Marcari , Maria Paula Gonçalves da Silva and Janeth Arcain .
