Érika Cristina de Souza (born March 3, 1982 in Brazil ) is a professional basketball player. After many years with the Atlanta Dream , she joined the Chicago Sky within the Women's National Basketball Association in 2015 .
Career
Women's National Basketball Association
Érika de Souza was never selected in a WNBA draft , but was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2002 . In the 2002 season, she played eleven games for the Sparks, who won the WNBA title that season. After a hiatus, she returned to the WNBA in 2007 and played for the Connecticut Sun in the 2007 season . On February 6, 2008, she was selected by the Atlanta Dream in the Expansion Draft . So she has been playing for Dream since the 2008 season . With this team she was active until 2015 and was in the starting line-up in almost all games. During this time, the team from Atlanta reached the WNBA finals three times, but failed there each time. During the 2015 season, she then moved to the Chicago Sky .
Europe
After the 2002 season she left the WNBA and played for the UB-Barça in the Spanish women's basketball league. In the 2005/06 season she was named MVP of the league. Since 2007 she has played regularly both in Europe and in the WNBA
National team
Érika de Souza played at the 2004 Olympic Games for the first time in an international tournament for the Brazilian women's basketball team . In fourth place, the team narrowly missed the medals. Also in 2012 in London she was Olympic active in basketball. In four world championships from 2002 to 2014, fourth place in 2006 was the best team result. In the continental competitions she was more successful with the national team. In 2006 the South America title and in 2011 even the Pan America title was won.
