The 1989 South American Basketball Championship for women , the twenty -first South American Basketball Championship for women , took place between April 18 and 25, 1989 in Santiago de Chile , Chile , which hosted the championship for the fourth time. The winner was the Brazilian team , which was unbeaten for the twelfth time, for the second time in a row, at the South American Women's Championship.

The game was played in the form of a round-robin tournament with six teams. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team played five games (a total of 15 games were played).
