The 1942 South American Basketball Championship , the tenth South American Basketball Championship , took place between March 7 and 17, 1942 in Santiago de Chile , Chile , which hosted the championship for the third time. The winner was the national team of Argentina , which won the title for the fourth time, for the second time in a row. In addition, for the first time since 1935, the host did not win the championship.

Preliminary round

Each team played against each opponent once, so that each team had to play four games (a total of ten games). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. Since Argentina and Uruguay had the same number of points after the games, the winner was determined in a final game.
