The winner was the host , who won the South American Women's Championship for the fifteenth time and for the fifth time in a row, unbeaten.
In the preliminary round was played in a group of four teams. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team played exactly three games (a total of six games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. In the semifinals, the first placed team played against the fourth placed team and the second placed against the third placed team. The winners of the semi-finals played for the title in the final.
