The 2001 South American Basketball Championship for women , the twenty-seventh South American Basketball Championship for women , was held between June 9 and 16, 2001 in Lima , Peru , which hosted the championship for the sixth time. The winner was the host , who won the South American Women's Championship for the eighteenth time and for the eighth time in a row, unbeaten.

The preliminary round was played in a group stage in which each team played once against the other teams. There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The fifth and sixth placed teams moved into the game for fifth place, the third and fourth placed teams played for third place and the two teams with the highest points moved into the final and determined the South American basketball champion of the women in 2001.
