The 1950 South American Basketball Championship , the third women's South American basketball championship , was held between April 1 and 18, 1950 in Lima , Peru , which hosted the championship for the first time. The winner was Chile , which won its second South American Women's Championship. For the first time a team from Colombia took part in the tournament.
First, a preliminary round was played in the form of a round-robin tournament with six teams. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team played five games (a total of 15 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the final and played the 1950s South American basketball champions for women. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided , as happened in fourth place. The first teams with equal points played the winner in a final game.
