The 1991 South American Basketball Championship for women , the twenty-second South American Basketball Championship for women , took place between May 25 and June 1, 1991 in Bogotá , Colombia , which hosted the championship for the third time. The winner was the Brazilian team , which was unbeaten for the thirteenth time, and for the third time in a row, the South American Women's Championship.
In the preliminary round, a group of five teams was played. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team played exactly four games (a total of ten games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The four teams with the highest points moved into the semi-finals. In this, the first placed team played against the fourth placed team and the second placed against the third placed team. Venezuela was the bottom of the group and last of the tournament.
