Desvres ( Flemish : Deveren or Deverne ) is a French municipality with 4985 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Boulogne-sur-Mer and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name, Desvres . The inhabitants are called Desvrois .
geography
The municipality is part of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park . Desvres is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bournonville in the northeast, Menneville in the east, Courset in the south and southeast, Longfossé in the south and southwest, Wirwignes in the west and Crémarest in the northwest.
The former national routes 341 and 343 run through the municipality .
history
During the Battle of Britain in World War II, there was a field airfield 2.5 km east-southeast of the town . Between the beginning of June 1940 and the beginning of August 1940 he was served by the II. Group of Jagdgeschwader 51 and immediately afterwards by the III. Gruppe des Jagdgeschwader 3 was used. Both flew the Bf 109E during this time .
