history

It is characteristic of the story that during wartime Ambleteuse was often in the interest of conquerors who wanted to conquer either from France from England or from England from France. This strategic importance began in 54 BC. During the time when the Romans conquered Great Britain .

Towards the end of the 17th century, Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban constructed Fort Mahon. Today the fort is one of the attractions of Ambleteuse.

Before 1805, Napoleon I had the course of the Slack river changed in order to build port facilities whose floor plans can still be seen today. The project was part of Napoleon's plan to conquer England and Great Britain.

At the end of the 19th century, Ambleteuse, like the nearby Wimereux, developed into a vacation spot for the middle class in Paris and Lille .

Between 1941 and 1943, casemates and defenses were built in the vicinity of Ambleteuse to protect against air raids.

Nowadays, Ambleteuse is known as an important center of the spiritual community L'Arche , which also has an important economic importance for the place.
