Équihen-Plage (Dutch: Ekingem ) is a French municipality with 2881 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Boulogne-sur-Mer and is part of the canton of Outreau . The inhabitants are called the Équihennois .
geography
Équihen-Plage is located on the Opal Coast of the English Channel . The municipality is part of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park . Neighboring municipalities of Équihen-Plage are Boulogne-sur-Mer in the north and northeast, Outreau in the northeast, Saint-Étienne-au-Mont in the east and southeast and Neufchâtel-Hardelot in the south.
history
Until the beginning of the 20th century, Équihen remained a small fishing village with a port. In 1939 it became an independent municipality.
