Outreau (NDL .: "Wabingen") is a French municipality with 13,422 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Boulogne-sur-Mer and is the capital of the canton of Outreau . The inhabitants are called outrelois .
Neighboring communities of Outreau are Boulogne-sur-Mer (ndl .: "Boonen") in the north, Saint-Léonard in the east, Saint-Étienne-au-Mont (ndl .: "Sint Stevens") in the south, Équihen-Plage (ndl .: "Ekingem") in the southwest and Le Portel in the west and northwest.

history
Under Flemish influence, the name of the village was still Walbodinga , Walbodeghem , also known as Wabingen in the 9th century . With the Peace of Outreau in 1550, Boulogne could be returned to the mainland between England and France against payment of 400,000 gold ducats.
With the Second World War, Outreau and the surrounding area suffered considerable destruction.
