The Protestant Church of St. Andreas is in the country town of Tanna in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

history

In 1232 a church in Tanna was first mentioned. Since 1279 the church and its daughter churches have been under the patronage of the Teutonic Knight Order . A new building was started towards the end of the 15th century. With the Reformation the community became Protestant in 1533. The main entrance and the cross in the stone enclosure and the cross vault in the rear part of the church have been preserved from the old church .

In 1640 the church partially burned down and was rebuilt. The tower on the west side of the nave dates from 1696–1698. In 1898 the church was renovated in the neo-Gothic style. Further renovations took place in the 1970s and 1980s. The roof was renovated in 2012/13.
