Marcelo "Marcelinho" Tieppo Huertas (born May 25, 1983 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian basketball player. The 1.90 m tall point guard has been active for Saski Baskonia in the ACB League since 2017 and is a member of the Brazilian national team . He has also had Italian citizenship since 2003.
Club career
Huertas started his career at Club Athletico Paulistano before moving to EC Pinheiros in 2002 . In the following season he developed despite his young age to the leading player of the team, whereupon he was voted the most improved player of the season. In the summer of 2003, Huertas completed some test matches for CB Breogán in the Spanish Liga de Verano (modeled on the NBA Summer League ), but returned to Paulistano. Since he was able to convince again here, Joventut de Badalona finally signed him in 2004 . In 2006 Huertas won the FIBA EuroCup with this club . The following year, the league competitor CB Bilbao Berri took him under contract. After that season he was elected to the "Quinteto Ideal" of the ACB League.
This award was followed by the move to Fortitudo Bologna, which was probably the most difficult year of his professional career, because Huertas was relegated from Serie A with the club, which was battered by mismanagement . He then returned to Spain and signed with Saski Baskonia , where he and his national team colleague Tiago Splitter 2010 Spanish champion. In the following season he was again elected to the "Quinteto Ideal" of the ACB League. Huertas then moved to FC Barcelona within Spain . With this he became Spanish champion in 2012 and 2014 and Spanish cup winner in 2013.
In 2015 Huertas signed a contract in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers . In 2017 he moved to the Spanish first division club Saski Baskonia .
National team career
With the Brazilian national team , Huertas won the American Championships in 2005 and 2009 and the basketball competition at the Pan American Games in 2007 . He also took part in the 2006 and 2010 World Championships and the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games .
