Ubiratan "Bira" Pereira Maciel (born January 18, 1944 in São Paulo , † July 17, 2002 in Brasília ) was a Brazilian basketball player .
Playing in the center position, he won a total of eleven Brazilian championships between 1963 and 1981 and the Brazilian Cup five times. He became internationally known primarily through his appearances at the Olympic Games and World Championships. He led the Brazilian national basketball team to win the 1963 World Cup and to win the bronze medal at the 1964 Olympics . At the basketball world championship in 1967 , his team won the bronze medal and in 1970 the silver medal. At the basketball world championship in 1978 it was again enough for a bronze medal. At the Pan American Games he was able to win one silver and two bronze medals.
Ubiratan Pereira Maciel was awarded the FIBA Order of Merit at the inaugural ceremony in Toronto in July 1994 and was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2009 . In 2010 he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player.
