La Vega is a province in the center of the Dominican Republic . In 1992 , the southeastern part of the province was separated and has been the independent province of Monseñor Nouel ever since .

geography

The province of La Vega is determined by the Cordillera Central with its high valleys near Jarabacoa and Constanza and the fertile Cibao plain.

economy

Agriculture shapes the economy of the province. Potatoes, cabbage, strawberries, apples and coffee are grown especially in the high valleys around Jarabacoa and Constanza, where temperatures are cooler all year round than in the rest of the country.

The mountains of the Cordillera Central also attract more and more tourists and locals. Mountain hikes on foot or on horseback, white water sports such as rafting and canyoning are particularly popular in the region.
