Elías Piña is one of the 31 provinces of the Dominican Republic . It is in the west on the border with Haiti . The province has 63,029 inhabitants on an area of ​​1,395.5 km².

The province was founded in 1942 with the name San Rafael . From 1965 the province was called La Estrelleta until it was finally given its current name in 1972.
