Peravia is one of the 31 provinces of the Dominican Republic . In 2002, part of the province was separated to form a new province called San José de Ocoa .
The province of Peravia was founded on November 23, 1944 , was first called Provincia de Baní and later José Trujillo Valdez . It received its current name Peravia on November 29, 1961 after the valley of Peravia, in which the provincial capital is located.
Location and surroundings
Peravia is located in the south on the Caribbean coast about 1 hour's drive west of the capital Santo Domingo . The provincial capital is Baní . In the east Peravia borders on the province of San Cristóbal , in the north on San José de Ocoa and in the west on Azua . Shortly behind the coast, the landscape becomes hilly and then turns into mountains up to 1700 m high.
tourism
Peravia is still largely undeveloped for tourism. Only recently has a small tourism industry begun, which has little influence on the country and its people. The Caribbean coast is largely a pebble sand beach that has not yet attracted the onslaught of foreign tourists. But there are also beautiful sandy beaches and opportunities for sporting activities under and above water.
economy
Because of the still minor influence of North America and Europe , the cost of living, restaurants or property prices are very cheap or nationally reasonable. As in the entire Dominican Republic, the contrast between rich and poor is very great. Economically, the province is influenced by agricultural production and small industry. There is an export production zone (Zona Franca) , which is produced exclusively for export.
Important localities
In addition to the provincial capital Baní , the largest towns in Peravia are Boca Canasta , Las Calderas , Las Salinas , Palmar de Ocoa , Paya and others.
