Ansu Martin Sesay, Jr. (born July 29, 1976 in Greensboro , North Carolina ) is a retired American basketball player. He has experience in the NBA as well as in the highest European basketball leagues.

Career

Start time

Sesay played while studying at the University of Mississippi for their college team Rebels in the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA Division I. In the 1998 NBA Draft , he was selected 30th by the Dallas Mavericks , but did not make it into the regular team because he himself Broke his right foot in the preseason.

In the 1999/2000 season he played for Rockford Lightning in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In the summer of 2000 he then moved to the Philippine Basketball Association at Santa Lucia Realtors, where he received the Best Import Award . He then returned to the CBA and played for Quad City Thunder in the 2000/01 season.

In the following season he moved to the newly formed NBA Development League and played at Greenville Grove, which were the first champions of this league. Sesay was named MVP of the NBDL.

NBA

Then Sesay was signed by the Seattle SuperSonics for the NBA in March 2002 , where he played until 2004. For the season from 2004 to 2005 he moved to the Golden State Warriors . While he was regularly used with the Sonics, he only played 16 games for the Warriors, so he left the NBA in 2005 and moved to Europe .

He played a total of 127 NBA games, including four play-off games for the Sonics, with an average of 10.2 minutes, 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He had hit rates of 43.4% from the field and a free throw rate of 64.0%.

Europe

His first stop in Europe was Roseto Basket in the Italian Serie A , where he played one season (2004/2005). Further stations in Italy were Basket Napoli (2005/2007), with whom he won the Italian Cup in 2006 , and Olimpia Milano (2007/2008). In the 2008/09 season he played in the German basketball league for Alba Berlin . While he reached the second round of the EuroLeague with Alba and won the German Cup , they were eliminated in the play-offs of the championship in the semi-finals, which was seen as a disappointment for the defending champion.

Since Sesay's performance had deteriorated over the course of the season after a good personal start to the season, he was one of the few players who did not get a new contract in Berlin. At the beginning of 2010 Sesay finally signed a contract with STB Le Havre in the French LNB Pro A .
