Pankraz Stollenmayer (born March 12, 1889 in Rechberghausen as Reinhold Stollenmayer ; † April 11, 1980 in Kremsmünster ) was a Benedictine , teacher and historical researcher .

Life

P. Pankraz Stollenmayer's father was a bricklayer foreman and, like his mother, reached a great age. Through the instigation of the local pastor and his pious mother, he came to the Kinderfreunde- Benedictine monks in the Josephinum in Tyrol in 1902 and was given the religious name Pankraz .

On December 20, 1914, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Franz Egger in the prince-bishop's house chapel in Brixen and celebrated Primiz on the holy night of the first Christmas in 1914 (December 25, 1914) in Rechberghausen . He studied history and geography at the University of Innsbruck and was professor for these subjects at the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster from 1921 to 1966 , to which monastery he was transferred as a monk by decision of the religious congregation in Rome. From January 6, 1949 to June 30, 1966, he was also the director of this well-known and traditional grammar school. In addition to teaching, he was also active as an internationally recognized Tassilo Researchers and explorers of the early history of Bavaria and wrote extensive work on the Duke of Bavaria, the Bavarian noble family of Agilolfinger and from this donated Tassilo Chalice and the Tassilo candlestick, where he assumed the reins of Agilolfinger. In recognition of his services, he became a consultant to the Upper Austrian provincial government and, as director of the grammar school, received the honorary title of "Hofrat".

He always remained connected to his Swabian homeland, consciously never gave up the Swabian dialect and regularly visited his hometown Rechberghausen, which he always spoke very proudly about, which is why Rechberghausen is a positive term for generations of Austrian and Bavarian academics today. Father Dr. Pankraz Stollenmayer can certainly be counted among the great historical researchers of our time. P. Pankraz Stollenmayer died at the age of 91 on April 11, 1980 in Kremsmünster , where he is buried at the monastery cemetery.
