Martin Thurner
Martin Thurner (born June 12, 1970 in Bozen ) is a German philosopher, Medievalist and Roman Catholic theologian and has been the academic director of the Martin Grabmann Research Institute at Munich University since 2014 . He has been an honorary doctorate from Ankara University since 2018.
Live and act
Thurner was born as the son of Adolf Thurner and his wife Notburga, geb. Gafriller, born in South Tyrol . From 1989 to 1994 he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Munich. He was supported with a scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung to promote talented students . After the graduation to the licentiate in theology with a focus on Christian Philosophy 1994 he research assistant at the Martin-grave man Research Institute for the study of medieval philosophy and theology was the University of Munich. In 1997 there was a doctorate in theology with a thesis on the Greek thinker Heraclitus . For this work he was awarded the PhD award of the University of Munich in 1998.
Thurner qualified as a professor in Munich in 2000 for the subject Christian philosophy with a study on Nikolaus von Kues . From 2002 he took on the duties of the professor for Christian philosophy in teaching and study supervision. In 2007 he was appointed professor. From 2011 to 2015 Thurner was the main editor of the Munich Theological Journal . In 2014 he was appointed Academic Director at the Martin Grabmann Research Institute at Munich University. Thurner worked until 2012 a. a. as co-editor and secretary of the yearbook “ Aufgang. Yearbook for Thought - Poetry - Music “works closely with the religious priest, theologian, philosopher and poet José Sánchez de Murillo .
Since 2014, Thurner has been chairman of the board of trustees of the "Eugen Biser Foundation" and in this capacity, among other things, he carries out projects on the dialogue with Islam: On September 27, 2018, the University of Ankara granted him an honorary doctorate from its rector Erkan İbiş ( Doctor honoris causa ) in philosophy.
The main concern of the various studies is the rediscovery and renewal of philosophical forms of thought that are still determined by the origin of reason from experience. Therefore, the Greek pre-Socratics and the history of (medieval) mysticism are his main focus.
