Sunrise is the title of the first time in 2004 by José Sánchez de Murillo and Martin Thurner in Kohlhammer Verlag published Yearbook of thinking, densities, music . After Thurner left in 2012, who had also been editor of the yearbook until then, José Sánchez de Murillo, Christoph Rinser and Rüdiger Haas were responsible as editors. After the collaboration with Kohlhammer Verlag ended in 2014, volume 12 was published for the first time in 2015 by Aufgang Verlag in Augsburg , founded by Christoph Rinser, under the new title AUFGANG - Yearbook for Thinking, Poetry, Art . Since then, José Sánchez de Murillo has been the sole editor responsible for the selection of topics and authors.

The editors described the conception in 2004 as a supplement to the series "Origins of Philosophizing" in Kohlhammer-Verlag by publishing "essays and smaller contributions on the renewal of a way of thinking" which aims at the initial unity of experience and reason in people ". Interdisciplinary contributions from a broad spectrum would be published, in which "especially people's self-experience in poetry and music" would be given space. The title of the magazine goes back to the analogous translation of the Greek word physis .
