Theo Stammen (born July 11, 1933 in Wankum ; † October 4, 2018 in Munich ) was a German political scientist .

Life

Theo Stammen was born in 1933 as the son of an elementary school teacher in the Lower Rhine region. After graduating from high school in 1954 at the classical grammar school Thomaeum in Kempen, he studied philosophy, German studies, history and political science at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the University of Manchester (England) with the help of a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation ) and again in Freiburg im Breisgau. In 1958 he passed the 1st state examination for the higher teaching degree for German and history. In 1959 he began his career as a research assistant at the Institute for Political Youth Education in the Wiesneck study center in Buchenbach near Freiburg. In 1961 he was at Arnold Bergstraesser at the University of Freiburg with the political science dissertation Natural Goethe's daughter - on the morphology of the political in Goethe's drama doctorate .

From 1963 to 1970 Stammen worked as a research assistant to Hans Maier at the Institute for Political Science, today's Geschwister-Scholl-Institut , at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In addition, he received teaching assignments at the Munich School of Politics and at the PH Munich-Pasing in 1964 . In 1969 , the DFG scholarship holder completed his habilitation in political science at the State Economics Faculty of the LMU Munich with the unpublished work Language and Politics - Problems of their Classification , supervised by Hans Maier and Eric Voegelin . In 1969/70 he was a private lecturer , member of the Scientific Council and professor at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institut.

1970 Stammen received a chair as a full professor for political science at the PH Rheinland ( Aachen department ). He then represented the Munich Chair for Political Science (Professorship Hans Maier) for three semesters. From 1973 until his retirement in 2001, Stammen taught as a professor of political science at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Augsburg . Even after his retirement he regularly offered courses there until 2010. After that he was u. a. Lecturer at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and the Women's Academy in Ulm. From 1976 Stammen was also a member of the teaching staff at the Munich School of Politics.

From 1975 to 1978 Stammen was Vice President of the University of Augsburg. Subsequently, he was also a member of the department and the Senate as well as dean . In 1990 he became prorector in Munich and in 1990 a member of the management board (until 2008) of the interdisciplinary institute for European cultural history, later he was managing director for six years.

In 1990 Stammen became a member of the Zeitschrift für Politik , since 1997 he has been co-editor of the series Spectrum Political Science ( Ergon-Verlag )
