The Ergon-Verlag is a German academic publisher based in Würzburg and since mid-2017 Imprint of the Nomos publishing house , based in Baden-Baden .

history

In the fall of 1989, Hans-Jürgen Dietrich founded the publishing house with a publishing program that was built up and expanded in the first few years by looking after the publications of the Rückert Society . The translation of the Koran by Friedrich Rückert, edited by Hartmut Bobzin and Wolfdietrich Fischer , was important for the development of the publishing house . Around 80 books appear in the program every year. The publisher has been operating as a GmbH since 2008, and Hans-Jürgen Dietrich is the managing partner. In mid-2017, Ergon Verlag was taken over by Nomos Verlag in Baden-Baden and continues to exist under this roof as an independent publisher.

The focus of the program, initially on orientalist literary studies, has now expanded to include the social and human sciences. The publishing house also publishes research results from scientific institutes, societies, collaborative research centers and chairs. As part of this support, Ergon-Verlag publishes academic book series in the areas of: sociology , law , political science , philosophy , pedagogy , psychology , information science and library science , art and classical studies . Ergon's social sciences and humanities program has been expanded since the beginning of 2000. In addition to the program focus on Oriental Studies and Literary Studies , publications of scientific research results in the fields of history, theology, religious studies and Jewish studies appear . Annotated editions have been published by Ergon since 2010, including editions of works by Arthur Schnitzler and Theodor Lipps .
