Chris Bezzel (born January 18, 1937 in Wetzhausen ; † February 3, 2015 in Hanover ) was a German writer , linguist and editor .

Life

Bezzel spent his childhood in Kitzingen and graduated from high school in Nuremberg in 1956. After studying classical philology and German in Freiburg, Berlin and Erlangen, he received his doctorate in 1962 with a dissertation on Franz Kafka under Hans Schwerte and was then trainee lawyer in Munich and Neu-Ulm. In 1962 he passed the first and in 1964 the second state examination.

After a short time as an assessor, Bezzel took a position as a lecturer at Suhrkamp Verlag , which he held for two years. There he discovered Peter Handke and recommended his first novel The Hornets . He then edited other texts by Handke. At Suhrkamp, ​​Bezzel's poems were first published in 1963 in the anthology “Vorzeichen 2” edited by Martin Walser . From 1967 to 1970 he was Associate Lecturer and Research Assistant at the University of Surrey in Surrey .

Bezzel worked as a freelance writer since 1970, first in Birmingham and from 1973 in Hanover . He worked there initially as a research assistant, from 1976 as an academic adviser at the seminar for German literature and language. 1979 followed the habilitation . From 1986 until his retirement in 2003, Bezzel was an adjunct professor of linguistics .

Bezzel was a member of the Bielefeld colloquium new poetry . In 1987 he received the Lower Saxony artist grant.
