Karl Albert (philosopher)

Karl Albert (born October 2, 1921 in Neheim ; † October 9, 2008 ) was a German philosopher and university professor of philosophy .

Life

Karl Albert was a son of the businessman Josef Albert and his wife Maria. As a soldier since 1941 he began to deal with Meister Eckhardt and mysticism . He studied philosophy and classical philology at the Universities of Cologne , especially under Heinz Heimsoeth , and Bonn . In 1950 he received his doctorate under Erich Rothacker in Bonn . After working as an academic assistant to Josef Koch at the Thomas Institute from 1952 to 1955, he initially taught in school and in 1968 became head of the Cologne study seminar . In 1972 he became a lecturer at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

From 1973 to 1980 Karl Albert was full professor of philosophy at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland, Neuss department . After transferring his chair, he was at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal from 1980 until his retirement in 1987 .

The focus for him is ontological experience, also the “experience of being”, which he took up from Louis Lavelle and Heidegger . He further pursued other types of philosophical mysticism, also with the involvement of Far Eastern thinkers, e.g. B. Lao-Tse .

Albert's grave is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 69).
