Joachim Salzgeber

Joachim Salzgeber OSB (born May 28, 1926 in St. Gallen ; † February 17, 2012 in Einsiedeln ) was a Swiss Benedictine .

Life

Joachim Salzgeber, baptismal name: Wilhelm Alfred Rudolf , attended high school in St. Gallen and the high schools in the Disentis Abbey and in Sarnen . In 1948 he entered the Einsiedeln monastery and made his simple profession on November 1, 1949 . He was ordained a priest on October 19, 1952 .

He studied philosophy , Hebrew , patrology and history and did his doctorate at the University of Leuven on the monasteries of Einsiedeln and St. Gallen in the Baroque era.

After completing his studies, he taught religious and religious history during his novitiate at the theological school of Einsiedeln Monastery and had been the monastery archivist since 1968 . For several years he was a teacher at the collegiate school in Einsiedeln as well as in the Marienberg monastery and was a cooperator in the provost of St. Gerold .

From 1961 to 2002 he took over pastoral care in Trachslau .

Since 1976 he has edited the internal monastery news of the Konventglöckli and since 1981 the magazine Maria Einsiedeln .

Writing

Joachim Salzgeber wrote a large number of articles in various publications; he published stories as well as everyday things about Einsiedeln monastery, here he was characterized by his love of poetry and humor.
