Karl Mindera

Karl Mindera SDB (born June 26, 1906 in Vienna ; † January 9, 1973 in Munich ), clergyman , was an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian, and church and art historian .

Life

Karl Mindera, son of Emmerich Mindera and Sophie, b. Popp, grew up in Vienna. In 1924 he joined the Society of the Salesians of Don Bosco . He studied in Turin , Benediktbeuern and Innsbruck . On May 28, 1933, he was ordained a priest in Benediktbeuern . From autumn 1933 he worked for 40 years as a lecturer in church and art history at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern , whose seminar library he built for church and art history.

Act

At an early age he devoted himself to researching the history and art of Benediktbeuern. For his academic achievements in these areas, including family research, he was made an honorary citizen of the Benediktbeuern community, and received a call to the Accademia Mariana Salesiana Rome, the Bavarian Benedictine Academy and the Commission for Sacred Art of the Diocese of Augsburg . He was the main restorer of the Benediktbeuern monastery complex with a focus on the Anastasia Chapel and the former monastery church.

In Benediktbeuern the Karl-Mindera-Strasse and in the Benediktbeuern monastery the Karl-Mindera-Saal were named after him. The estate of Karl Mindera has been indexed in the Benediktbeuern monastery archive since 2018.
