Laurentius Hanser

Laurentius Hanser OSB, baptized Bernhard (* July 23, 1875 in Walchsee ; † December 28, 1929 in Munich ), was a Benedictine monk in the Scheyern monastery and monastery historian.

biography

Bernhard Hanser attended the grammar school of the Scheyern monastery and entered the Benedictine abbey here in 1895. In 1896 he made his profession and received the religious name Laurentius. He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the international Benedictine college Sant'Anselmo in Rome . After completing his studies, he was ordained a priest in 1899 . He held various offices in Scheyern Abbey; among other things, he was subprior in 1904 . From 1906 to 1907 and again from 1912 he was prior of the study house of the Scheyern monastery in Munich . During this time he studied law at the University of Munich . He completed his studies in 1919 with a doctorate. After returning from Munich he worked in Scheyern from 1920 in pastoral care and as a teacher at the monastery high school.

Laurentius Hanser was one of the initiators of the Bavarian Benedictine Academy and was the Academy's first secretary from 1921.
