Bernhard Eckerstorfer

Bernhard Andreas Eckerstorfer OSB (* 1971 in Linz as Andreas Eckerstorfer ) is an Austrian Benedictine . Since 2019 he has been the rector of the Benedictine University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome .

Life

After graduating from the Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium in Linz and doing community service at Caritas in Linz in 2000, Eckerstorfer joined the Benedictine monastery in Kremsmünster Abbey in Upper Austria . He studied theology and philosophy as well as geography in Salzburg, Vienna, the USA and Rome. In 1999 he was at the University of Salzburg with a dissertation on the North American theologian George Lindbeck to Dr. theol. PhD . From 2001 to 2003 he worked as a postdoc in Sant'Anselmo in Rome. In 2005 he was ordained a priest . At Kremsmünster Abbey, he was, among other things, novice master and clerical magister, responsible for pastoral care, press spokesman, member of the editorial team of the Benedictine magazine “ Erbe und Einsatz ” as well as high school teacher for Italian, religion, geography and economics at the Kremsmünster Abbey High School , and also a lecturer at the University of Linz and the University of Salzburg.

From 2017 Eckerstorfer was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome; At the end of October 2019, the Faculty of Theology awarded him the title of Associate Professor. Eckerstorfer was elected by Sant'Anselm's college of professors and was nominated for the office of rector by Abbot Primate Gregory Polan , Grand Chancellor of the Religious College . The Vatican Congregation for Education confirmed the election for a four-year term on December 5, 2019.
