Adalbert Seipolt

Adalbert Seipolt OSB, baptized Eberhard (born  August 11, 1929 in Breslau ; †  January 29, 2009 in Metten ) was a monk of the Benedictine Abbey of Metten and author .

biography

Eberhard Seipolt attended the humanistic Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau from 1940 . After being expelled from his Silesian homeland in the winter of 1944/1945, he first came to Riesa in Saxony and finally to Metten in 1946, where he continued his education at St. Michaels Gymnasium of the Benedictines and graduated in 1948 with the Abitur . Then he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Metten. On September 22, 1949 he took his religious vows and was given the religious name Adalbert. After studying philosophy and theology in Salzburg and at the Benedictine College of S. Anselmo in Rome , he was ordained a priest on July 9, 1953 . This was followed by studying German, Greek and history for teaching at the grammar school at the University of Würzburg .

After his state examination, he worked at the Metten monastery high school as a teacher of German, Greek and history and headed the school stage. At the same time he worked as an educator in the boarding school of the monastery. From 1993 to 2005 he was prior of the abbey .

Seipolt became known as a book author. In his works he also deals with serious religious topics in a cheerful narrative style. Most famous was his portrayal of a pilgrimage, All roads lead to Rome . The book had 22 editions, over a million copies in total, and has been translated into seven languages.

For his achievements and merits, P. Adalbert Seipolt was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
