Ludwig Hammermayer

Ludwig Hammermayer (born October 7, 1928 in Ingolstadt ) is a German historian .

Ludwig Hammermayer studied history, English and German at the University of Munich . He had study visits to Great Britain, Rome and Paris. In 1954 he received his doctorate in Munich on the founding and early history of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . The habilitation for Middle and Modern History took place in 1968. Hammermayer taught as professor for Middle and Modern History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 2008 he received the Medal of Merit of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.

His research focus was the 18th century with the conflicts of the Enlightenment in the Catholic area of ​​southern Germany and Austria. His work on the history of the Bavarian Academy and the Order of Illuminati became fundamental .
