Sigisbert Mitterer
Sigisbert Mitterer OSB , born Anton Mitterer (* July 20, 1891 in Gars am Inn , Upper Bavaria; † September 1, 1968 in Munich ) was a German clergyman and the second abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Schäftlarn .
Life
Born as Anton Mitterer, he made his profession on September 12, 1912 and took the religious name Sigisbert. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1916.
As Sigisbert Mitterer was elected on April 4, 1929 the second abbot of the Benedictine Schäftlarn and received on 20 May 1929 Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber , the benediction , commonly known as "Abtweihe". He served until 1963 and was Abbot President of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation from 1936 to 1939 and 1946 to 1958 .
As an order historian, he has published two comprehensive works on the Schäftlarn monastery.
