Norbert Lieb

Norbert Lieb (born January 18, 1907 in Frankenthal ; † December 20, 1994 in Munich ) was a German art historian .

Life

Norbert Lieb studied art history at the University of Munich and received his doctorate in 1931 under Wilhelm Pinder . In 1931/32 he initially worked as a volunteer at the Bavarian National Museum and the Bavarian State Painting Collections , before becoming head of the Augsburg Municipal Art Collections in 1932 . In 1963 he became an associate professor for art history with a focus on Bavarian art history at the University of Munich in 1968. In 1973 he retired.

His main area of research was the history of Bavarian and Swabian baroque architecture .

In 1962 he received the Bavarian Order of Merit and in 1991 the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
