Germania Benedictina

Germania Benedictina is a project started in 1965 by the Historical Section of the Bavarian Benedictine Academy . It offers a detailed description of the monasteries with the Benedictine Rule that exist or have existed in the German-speaking area. The volumes, with the exception of volumes II and V, which appeared first in time, are published by the in-house EOS publishing house of the Benedictine Archabbey of Sankt Ottilien . The main editor of the series has been the theology professor Ulrich Faust OSB, who lives in the Marienberg Abbey and who also co-authored numerous volumes of the series.

The following volumes of the “Germania Benedictina” series have been published so far:

The monasteries described are each represented according to a uniform scheme. After an introduction, the sections "Historical Forms of Name", "Political and Church Topography", "Patrons", "Historical Overview", "Economic, Legal and Social Conditions", "Patronages and Incorporations", "Library History", " Series of Abbots / Provosts and Abbesses ”,“ Printed Sources ”,“ Literature ”,“ Archives ”,“ Views and Plans ”,“ Numismatics ”and“ Sphragistics and Heraldry ”.
