Achim Masser

Achim Masser (born May 12, 1933 in Nienburg an der Saale ; † October 4, 2015 ) was a German specialist in German .

Life

He studied German and Scandinavian philology at the Humboldt University in Berlin (Dr. phil. July 15, 1959). From 1955 to 1960 he was a research assistant at the German Dictionary ('Grimm') at the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . From 1960 to 1968 he was a research assistant at the Institute for German Language and Literature at the University of Cologne . After the Habilitation 1967 in Cologne for German Philology, lecturer he taught from 1970 to 2001 as a full professor for older German language and literature at the University of Innsbruck. From 1979 to 1981 he was dean of the humanities faculty at the University of Innsbruck. In 2001 he retired . He was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen and received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class .

The focus of his work was Old High German language and literature, religious literature of the German Middle Ages and literature of the High Middle Ages.
