Christian Schütz (Abbot)
Christian Schütz OSB (born February 26, 1938 in Metting ) is a Benedictine monk of the Bavarian abbey Schweiklberg in Vilshofen on the Danube and was abbot of his monastery from 1982 to 2007 .
biography
After graduating from high school in Passau, Christian Schütz entered the Benedictine Missionary Monastery in Schweiklberg near Vilshofen and studied Catholic theology at the Benedictine University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome. He was ordained a priest on July 12, 1964.
After receiving his doctorate in Rome in 1965 and his habilitation in Würzburg in 1971, he worked as a professor of dogmatics and the history of dogma at the Catholic-Theological Faculties in Passau and then in Regensburg . Schütz is an honorary professor at the University of Regensburg.
In 1982 Schütz was elected fifth abbot of Schweiklberg . In February 2007 he resigned from the office of abbot after 25 years. Since then he has been spiritual in the Benedictine convent Neustift near Vilshofen.
In 1983 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and invested in Cologne Cathedral on December 10, 1983 by Franz Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He was prior of the Commandery St. Michael in Passau; his successor was prelate Klaus Metzl .
