Klaus Metzl

Klaus Metzl (born November 6, 1965 in Tann ) is cathedral capitular and vicar general in the diocese of Passau . During the Sedis vacancy he was diocesan administrator from September 2013 to April 2014 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Metzl entered the Fockenfeld late career seminar at the Ducal Georgianum and studied Catholic theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and philosophy at the Munich School of Philosophy . In 1993 Metzl was ordained a priest in Passau . In 1996, after three years as a chaplain in Altötting , the diocese released him to study at the University of Munich. He was at Gerhard Ludwig Müller specialist dogmatic about phenomenological hermeneutics and the analogy of being ( summa cum laude ) doctorate and was also chancellor of the Georgianum. After his return to Passau in 2001, Metzl became parish priest in St. Mariä Himmelfahrt in Landau an der Isar .

On February 22, 2005, he was appointed vicar general of the Diocese of Passau by Bishop Wilhelm Schraml to succeed Otto Mochti. Metzl was accepted into the cathedral chapter on Pentecost Sunday 2008 by Bishop Wilhelm Schraml and Provost Hans Wagenhammer. He had already received the bishop's appointment on May 1, 2008. Metzl moved to the cathedral chapter in St. Stephan in Passau for the retired Hans Kümmeringer . During the Pope's visit to Germany in 2006 in Altötting and Marktl, Metzl was responsible for overall coordination.

Metzl is a member of the board of trustees of Pope Benedict XVI's Birthplace Foundation.

On March 1, 2012, he implemented his concept for the reorganization of the parish associations, with which 285 parishes and 20 branches were reorganized from the current 117 parish associations to a future 86.

In 2012 he was appointed Commander of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Pro-Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien and invested in St. Michael (Jesuit Church) in Munich on May 12, 2012 by Reinhard Cardinal Marx , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He has been prior of the Commandery St. Michael in Passau since 2013 and successor to former abbot Christian Schütz OSB .

On September 1, 2020, Dr. Klaus Metzl pastor and administrator of Altötting. Vicar General Dr. Klaus Metzl will also resign from September 2020.
