Open Balkan Championships in Biathlon 2008

The 2008 Balkan Open Biathlon Championships were held from March 25th to March 27th in Băile Harghita , Romania .

Originally the championships were supposed to take place from March 21st to March 23rd in the Greek Drama-Falacro , but had to be canceled there due to warm weather. Băile Harghita stepped in as a replacement. There was heavy snowfall on the day of the competition, followed by sunny but consistently cold weather. 84 athletes competed for the title, including medalists from the Biathlon World Championships , Junior and Youth World Championships and the European Biathlon Championships . There were men's and women's competitions in the junior and senior area. The competitions run were the sprint and the pursuit. 46 athletes were male, 38 female. The athletes came from Bulgaria, Germany, Moldova, Serbia and Romania.

The sprint was held at the same time as the junior sprint. Thus Vladimir Iliev was able to triumph in both competitions. Then he won the pursuit competitions, which were also held at the same time. In the youth field, the Romanian Ştefan Gavrilă won the sprint and his compatriot Roland Gerbacea won the pursuit.

Éva Tófalvi also won the following chase. Her compatriot Alina Babes won the sprint in the junior division, and the winner of the pursuit, Réka Ferenc, also came from Romania. The Bulgarian Emilija Jordanowa was a double winner in the youth competitions .
